What is Cyber Security?

Security is a form of protection that ensures something is safely kept in a state of being free from threat and danger. Security can take many forms, one of these being cyber security, this is how individuals and organisations can protect their personal information online and reduce the risk of cyber-attacks and information being stolen. Our online information has a right to remain private and should not be at a constant risk of being taken or shared without consent

Its important to understand that without cyber security an array of information is not safe and can easily be intercepted by unwanted internet presences. Cyber security is crucial to protect any information you possess online, otherwise it’s at risk of being stolen, spread, edited or destroyed by hackers on the internet, rates of these incidences are constantly rising daily so it's important we act fast to protect ourselves and others.

Don’t overlook the importance of changing passwords!

Simple methods that you can use today to easily protect your information online can be used efficiently. One example is to change your passwords occasionally, this reduces the risk of your password eventually being discovered. However, remembering passwords can be difficult sometimes, in this case there are many secure websites that will store your passwords, although you should do research before you should decide who to trust. When creating passwords, they should not be obvious to your identity and relate to you too personally otherwise these are easily guessable and can cause problems later on. Another idea is to delete old accounts that are no longer in use, or are hovering on insecure webpages, hackers can easily pick up information from these and use them to try overtaking other accounts.

To conclude, due to recent high internet usage and dependency cyber crime is ever increasing and needs to be stopped in its tracks. Cyber security is and should be a priority to keeping you and your information safe all the time.
